Avery County is seeking a compassionate, organized, and mission-driven Disaster Case Manager (DCM) to support individuals and families affected by natural or man-made disasters. The Disaster Case Manager (DCM) will provide direct client services, coordinate resources, and develop recovery plans that help survivors return to safe, stable, and self-sufficient living conditions. In addition to DCM casework, this role will serve as a Disaster Case Manager Lead working to establish DCM best practices across Avery County.
Key Disaster Case Management Responsibilities
- Conduct client intakes, assessments, and develop individualized disaster recovery plans
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned cases; advocate for client needs across multiple agencies
- Maintain up-to-date case files, service plans, and required documentation in accordance with funder guidelines
- Facilitate access to disaster recovery services including housing, financial assistance, legal aid, and mental health support
- Coordinate with local, state, and federal disaster relief programs (FEMA, VOAD, LTRGs, etc.)
- Track client progress and provide regular follow-up and support until recovery goals are achieved
- Participate in community outreach and disaster response initiatives as needed
- Collaborate with other Disaster Case Management teams, parishes, and local agencies to ensure holistic service delivery in Avery County
- Uphold the mission and values of ACLTRG in all client interactions and community engagement
Key Disaster Case Management Lead Responsibilities
- Play a critical role in guiding and strengthening a collaborative, survivor-centered disaster recovery program
- Work closely with ACLTRG Executive Director and Associate Director coordinating with multiple community agencies, helping them build capacity, align efforts, and deliver high-quality services to impacted households within a coordinated Disaster Case Management system
- Work with ACLTRG leadership to further the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Avery County LTRG Disaster Case Management Program
- Oversee program implementation, coordinate training, support data-informed decisions, and champion continuous improvement — all while ensuring that survivors’ needs and voices remain at the center of recovery efforts
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Emergency Management, or related field (required)
- 2+ years of case management or disaster recovery experience preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and advocacy skills
- Ability to manage a caseload in a fast-paced, often unpredictable environment
- Cultural humility and experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations
- Knowledge of disaster recovery resources, systems, and best practices
- Proficient in MS Office, online case management systems, and virtual collaboration tools
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed
