Has your job been impacted by the disaster? Help is here. Hurricane Helene caused widespread disruption to the WNC economy. Chart a new path forward with the National Dislocated Worker Grant.
Local governments in North Carolina located in areas impacted by Hurricane Helene can now apply for grants from the new Small Business Infrastructure Grant Program (SmBIZ), a $55 million dollar fund designed to rebuild the damaged infrastructure that small businesses rely on to operate and thrive.
There are 2 grants serving the region:
The National Dislocated Worker Grant provides resources to respond to large, unexpected layoff events causing significant job losses by helping dislocated workers obtain training to change career paths or seek other full-time employment. This grant can also assist employers hiring dislocated workers.
The Disaster Recovery Employment Grant provides temporary jobs for individuals temporarily or permanently laid off as a consequence of the disaster or emergency. This includes self-employed individuals who became unemployed or significantly underemployed as a result of the disaster. The purpose of these jobs are to assist local recovery efforts through cleanup, repair of facilities, and humanitarian assistance in the counties impacted.
